International Historic Civil Engineer Landmark
Guayabo Arqueological Site.
This tour is a combination of bird watching, nature and historic walks.
Created in 1973, the park’s main objective is to protect one of Costa Rica’s most important and best preserved archaeological sites, along with its natural resources.
The Precolumbian structures date back to 1000 B.C. to 1400 A.D.
The uncovered area is of four hectares and includes 43 mounds, two plazas, two streets; different burial grounds and three aqueducts that to this day function perfectly. These have won Guayabo the distinction of ‘World Engineering Heritage Site’, given by the American Association of Civil Engineers, a recognition given only to Machu Picchu and Tipon in Perú.
