Do you want to do something different?

 

Our guide will take you to Atlántico train station where you will travel to the city of Cartago, our first capital.

 

The ride will take about 50 minutes. Once you arrive in Cartago you will go to the Basílica de Los Ángeles, the most important Catholic Church in Costa Rica, this stop will be 30 minutes.

 

You will hop on your private van for the next leg of your trip. When everyone is ready, it will be time to go uphill to one of the highest mountain ranges in our country. 

This ride will be about an hour and a half to Guayabo. Weather permitting; we will have some special moments if Irazú or Turrialba volcanoes can be seen.

 

Turrialba has been very active in the last few months and a real treat if we get to see some smoke coming out. We will arrive at the Guayabo Archeological Monument where we will hike for about one hour and a half thought this amazing, sacred place and then we will grab some lunch.

 

After Guayabo, you will visit CATIE’s beautiful campus, where you will see an abundance of flora and fauna native to the area. There will be a 2-hour nature walk with our naturalist guide.

 

Finally, you will have a 2-hour drive back to San José on an express public bus.

Departure time: 6:30 am.

 

¿What to bring? Lycra, dry fit clothing, sunblock, hat/cap, water, rain gear or ponchos, extra food, medicines, cameras, extra clothes.

 

It includes: All transportation (taxi, train, private van, and public bus), Meals: breakfast and lunch, Naturalist Guide, entrance to Guayabo Archeological Monument and CATIE. Pick up from your hotel. A Professional Guide certified by ICT (Costa Rican Tourism Institute) and INBio (Biodiversity National Institute) will accompany you and CD with pictures.
